Transition-Related Surgical Assessments

A Transition-Related Surgical (TRS) Assessment appointment is intended to complete a structured psychosocial assessment for the purposes of obtaining OHIP Prior Approval for surgery. This secondary assessment is only required for lower surgeries (e.g., vaginoplasty, hysterectomy, phalloplasty, orchiectomy, metoidioplasty, etc.)

This hour will be spent assessing the psychosocial resources in your life (e.g., supports in place, stable housing, mental health status) and planning for how to be best prepared for surgery. This may include discussion about how to prepare for potential post-op depression, how to quit smoking prior to surgery, where to stay after surgery, how to talk to work about time off, etc. I will provide some education about surgery and what to expect in the process.

Following this one hour session, I will write up a letter that meets the standards of the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) and this letter will be forwarded to you or your primary care practitioner to submit to the Ministry of Health and your surgeon.

Fee: Sliding Scale. This service is offered at whatever rate is feasible for you, ranging from $75 to $200.

(includes 50 minute session + letter)
